Program Overview

BPI Freelancer is a personal accident insurance plan designed for freelancers or people who don’t have the usual company benefits like HMOs or group insurance but still want affordable protection in case of accidents, disability, or hospital confinement.
Offered by BPI MS Insurance Corporation, it provides coverage for accidental death, permanent disablement, and hospital confinement due to accident or illness. This helps freelancers stay financially protected even when they cannot work temporarily because of unforeseen events or emergencies.
Types Offered
The BPI Freelancer Insurance has three types of plans — Basic, Prime, and Elite. These plans differ mainly in the amount of coverage and the premium cost, allowing freelancers to choose a plan that fits their budget and protection needs.
1. BPI Freelancer Basic
Premium: ₱499 per year
Best for: Freelancers looking for basic accident coverage at an affordable price, especially those who use motorcycles or have moderate risk exposure.
Coverage and Benefits:
- Accidental Death & Permanent Disablement (including motorcycle accidents): ₱250,000
- Provides a lump sum payment if the insured dies or becomes permanently disabled due to an accident.
- Motorcycle accidents are included, making it ideal for delivery riders or freelancers who use motorcycles for work.
- Utility Bills Payment Assistance: ₱20,000
- Helps cover unpaid utility bills (like electricity, water, or internet) if the insured dies or becomes permanently disabled because of a covered accident.
- Daily Cash Assistance for Hospitalization: ₱1,000 per day (maximum of 10 days, up to ₱10,000)
- Provides daily financial assistance if confined in a hospital due to accident or sickness.
2. BPI Freelancer Prime
Premium: ₱699 per year
Best for: Freelancers who want higher coverage for accidents while still keeping premiums affordable. It doubles the coverage for death or disablement compared to the Basic plan.

3. BPI Freelancer Elite

- Utility Bills Payment Assistance: ₱20,000

- ₱1,000 per day (up to 10 days) for confinement due to accident or illness.
- There is a 7-day waiting period before illness-related hospitalization benefits can be claimed.
- 2-day deductible for sickness-related confinement (no deductible for accidents).
- Confinement must last at least 18 hours in a licensed hospital with full facilities and registered medical staff.
Coverage Limitations
The policy covers accidental death, permanent disablement, and hospital confinement, but excludes:
- Pre-existing conditions or illnesses diagnosed within 24 months prior to coverage.
- Kidnapping, food poisoning, mosquito-borne diseases.
- Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)
- Dangerous jobs (e.g., military, police, construction of high-rise buildings, logging, or explosives work).
- High-risk sports (e.g., scuba diving, rock climbing, jet skiing, bungee jumping).
- Suicide, drug abuse, mental disorders, and illnesses like AIDS or STDs.
- War, terrorism, radiation, natural disasters (earthquake, volcanic eruption, tidal wave).
- Pregnancy, miscarriage, or childbirth-related conditions.
- Illness benefits are only payable if hospitalization occurs 7 days after the policy’s start date.
- The hospital must be a legally recognized medical institution with at least six beds and 24-hour nursing service with licensed doctors.
- Even if a person holds more than one BPI Freelancer policy, only one policy will respond to a valid claim.
- Beneficiaries follow Philippine Civil Law on succession unless the insured personally requests to assign a specific beneficiary at BPI MS Head Office.
Policy Duration
- Your insurance starts at 12:00 AM the day after purchase.
- Valid for 1 year.
- You can activate auto-renewal so your protection continues every year without reapplying.
Who Can Apply?
You are eligible if you are:
- Between 18 and 65 years old
- A freelancer, self-employed worker, or professional (e.g., architect, lawyer, content creator, developer, etc.)
- A digital nomad or independent contractor
- Must declare name, occupation, and date of birth.
- One policy per insured person only (multiple policies will not double benefits).
You can buy:
- For yourself only
- For yourself and up to 4 other people
- Or for others only (up to 5 total)
Not covered: OFWs and high-risk jobs (like soldiers, stuntmen, etc.)

To get insured or to enroll, simply follow these steps:
For Individual Applications

Step 3. Indicate who the insurance is for (yourself or others)
Step 4. Fill out the application form
Step 5. Choose your payment schedule: one-time or auto-renewal

Step 7. Receive two confirmation emails:
- Payment confirmation (from Paynamics)
- Confirmation of Insurance Coverage (COIC) — password-protected
For Group Applications (up to 5 people)

Step 2. Choose your plan and list all insured individuals
Step 3. Fill out one form per person (with correct contact info)
Step 4. Fill out the payor’s details
Step 5. Choose one-time payment or auto-renewal

How to File a Claim

- Utility bill under the insured’s name
- Medical records, hospital documents
- Death certificate (if applicable)

When a Claim Might Be Denied
Your claim may not be processed if:
- The incident is excluded under your policy (e.g., illegal activities)
- Documents are incomplete or falsified
- The claim is for a non-covered event (like a pre-existing illness)
- You’re requesting medical reimbursement, which isn’t covered
- The Utility Bills Benefit is claimed for minor injuries or illness
Who Can Be Your Beneficiaries?
The rules on beneficiary awarding is as follows:
- Beneficiaries follow Philippine Civil Law on Succession by default.
- If you’re buying for someone else, only the insured person can assign their own beneficiaries.
